Microsoft set free Windows Phone and RT?

Microsoft set free Windows Phone and RT?
Microsoft reportedly seeks to compete with Android by offering Windows Phone and Windows RT for free. The Verge reports citing reliable sources of Internal Microsoft said second operating system will be available for free to device manufacturers, as part of the overall improvements that Microsoft made to Windows.

The decision to offer it for free is not final, but being considered very seriously by Terry Myerson who is vice president of the Microsoft OS.

Microsoft generates revenue from licensing the operating system for the PC, phone and tablet vendors. Most of the revenue comes from the Nokia Windows Phone, but a source of revenue dried up since Microsoft bought the handset business of the Finnish mobile phone manufacturer.

The company seeks to rise revenue elsewhere in offset lost revenue from license OS. Microsoft is testing Windows 8 ads in applications and advertising has become part of Bing search results in Windows 8. The company also seeks to lure more people to subscribe to SkyDrive, Office and Skype.

The move became part of Microsoft's strategy to compete with Google's Android offering for free to manufacturers of mobile phones and tablets. If the reports are true, Microsoft is likely to offer a free operating system in conjunction with the Threshold initiatives rolled out in 2015.

The project is designed to bring together Xbox One, Windows and Windows Phone, so that all can share applications and content better.
