Western Digital My Passport portable drives are Ultra thin shape which comes as a refinement of the My Passport Edge last year. Ultra version lined up as the basic models at an affordable price, because the use case with a plastic material. More expensive models for established users now renamed to My Passport Water and offer a more robust aluminum casing and smooth.

Drive My Passport Edge is available with the largest capacity reaching 500 GB, while the My Passport Ultra is currently available with capacities up to 2 TB in size the same chassis, with the availability of 2.5in hard drive with single platter 1 TB disks to be installed on the notebook drive 7 mm size.

Disks are usually stored inside the casing with a USB to SATA converter. While WD do with making custom 2.5 in drive seems like a portable enclosure, with a USB 3.0 connection to plant directly in the hard drive electronics components.

The exterior of the casing is not too exciting, use black plastic bottom and adorned with a black dot at the top. Western Digital My Passport Ultra is offered with a choice of colors such as black, red, blue and gray.

USB 3.0 interfaces are more commonly used to make the data can be copied quickly from inside and outside the My Passport Ultra. 1 TB capacity drives were tested using QuickBench, able to achieve read and write speeds around 114 MB / s, fast enough compared to most of the kind of external hard drive.

A number of small file sizes can be changed in order to quickly reach 91 MB / s for read and 97 MB / s for write. While read / write random bit slow, only able to reach 19 MB / s for random read and 9 MB / s random write. However, the speed reasonable for disk based storage media.

Meanwhile, if the user forced to make it work in a multitasking, with the read and the process of copying multiple files at once in one time will make decrease performance . Partly due to a single disk platter in the WD My Passport Ultra only has one head read / write.

Testing is done by trying to copy Blu - ray on My Passport Ultra and produce transfer speeds of 110 MB / s. But when trying to copy the file again at the same time, his speed dropped to just 35 MB / s.

WD My Passport Ultra is an easy way to carry data wherever terabyte sized and can be accessed quickly because it uses a USB 3.0 interface. For power users might be a little frustration, because its performance is slow when doing multiple operations at once. But it would be very beneficial when it took a large capacity storage media for backing up data on computers, and store various files favorite Blu-ray movies.
