Tizen OS to challenge Android

Tizen mobile operating system has gained a lot of support from major technology companies. Tizen Association announced operating system has now formed a partnership with 36 companies that have pledged to extend support for the OS.

Companies that are known to support Tizen include eBay, Konami, McAfee, Panasonic, Fujitsu, Huawei, The Weather Channel, and some of the industry mobile operators, namely NTT DoCoMo, Orange, Vodafone, Sprint, and two South Korean operator, SK Telecom and KT. The full list will be announced later.

Tizen is a mobile operating system project is open (open source) that builds on the core program (kernel) Linux. The parties directly involved in the development of Tizen are Samsung, Intel and the Linux Foundation since mid-2012.

Support of major technology companies to Tizen shows great potential to compete with the mobile operating system that exists today, especially Android which is also built with the Linux kernel. Currently, Tizen has reached the stage of development of version 2.2.1.

Trevor Cornwell from Appbackr application Development Company, told The Verge, Tizen not only can be used for tablets and mobile phones, but it is also designed for smart TV, netbook, up to a digital camera.

Samsung NX300 camera has made running the operating system Tizen. Samsung seriously develop Tizen to not always rely on Android, developed by Google. The South Korean company promised would release several types of devices running Tizen again in 2013.
